Dr. Lane’s Announcement

This morning, we learned that Dr. Lane will be ending her tenure as Superintendent of Pittsburgh Public Schools at the end of this school year. Under her leadership, the graduation rate increased by eight percentage points, twenty-six percent more students took AP courses, and the number of black students in CAS courses doubled.

We have released a statement along with other community leaders that rightly praises Dr. Lane for her contributions. As Carey said, “We know that Pittsburgh needs a visionary leader for our public school system. Whether that person is in our backyard or somewhere a thousand miles away, a good process that casts the net widely, that involves an external screening panel, and includes structure for community input will help the school board find the best person for the job.”

Read the press release here.

In the coming weeks, we hope you’ll join our call for a search process that will get us the best possible candidate to lead our schools. We’ll have more to come on how you can get involved.
