The A+ Schools annual Report to the Community is a great resource to learn about the performance of Pittsburgh’s schools. A range of data is provided for every school in the Pittsburgh Public School District as well as for the city’s charter schools.
If you would like to take a deeper dive, this is the place for you. We have compiled a list of really good resources along with tips on how to navigate quickly to the information you need.
Pittsburgh Public Schools
PPS provides a range of information about each school as well as a set of data dashboards to provide progress updates on key performance measures.
The Discover PPS website provides a quick way to search for any PPS school and find out more about it. In the example link here for Perry High School, you’ll find a general description, a staff directory as well as up to date enrollment data.
The PPS Data Dashboard includes key metrics like Algebra and AP pass rates, Attendance, Graduation/Promise Eligibility, and Suspension Rates. There is often data for multiple years and the information is available at both the district level and for individual schools.
PA Department of Education (PDE)
PDE is a great source for data about PA schools. Information, including prior years, is available for Enrollment, Student Demographics and PSSA/Keystone test results. The PDE site can be a bit overwhelming but here are some key links to simplify your navigation to the right info!
The Future Ready PA Index is a collection of school progress measures including assessment, on-track, and career readiness indicators to more accurately report student learning, growth, and success in the classroom and beyond. It replaced the School Performance Profile in 2018.
This page includes links to a range of key files including Enrollment, Low Income data, Keystone Exam and PSSA results. Most files are available for multiple school years and have both district and school level details.
Other Online Resources
There are many online resources with information about schools. Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to figure out which ones have accurate and timely data. While we don’t necessarily agree with their ranking algorithms, here are a couple of sites that have helpful school data.
The GreatSchools site provides information on Academics, Equity and Environment with comparisons to state averages. The site also provides tips for parents as well as links to articles and reports that offer insight into why these metrics are important.
SchoolDigger.com provides test scores, rankings, school boundaries, student/teacher ratios, ethnic makeup, and lots of other useful information for over 120,000 schools in the United States. The site provides an easy to navigate set of charts with historical trend data for many key metrics.
