Campaign for Student Success
Mission:
Pittsburgh’s Campaign for Student Success is dedicated to engaging all sectors of the community in supporting student outcomes.
Background
In 2006, the Campaign for Proficiency was initiated by Superintendant Mark Roosevelt and several city leaders representing many sectors of the community. In April of 2007, the name was changed to Pittsburgh’s Campaign for Student Success and the mission was clarified and articulated as a responsive, grass roots effort within specific communities. The initial area of focus has been the West End of Pittsburgh where residents and community members have been working to address the following:
Needs Identified by the Community
- Increasing parent/ community engagement in the school
- Increasing support for students after school in terms of connecting academic to recreational activities
- Reducing the high frequency of student absences/ tardiness
New Programming
Community Learns at Langley- A tutoring program for high school students began for the 2008-2009 school year
21st Century Program at Schaeffer- A tutoring program for 4th and 5th graders is recruiting students and would like to begin in the 2008-2009 school year.
